Question 1

How do you answer "What is your greatest weakness?" in an interview?

Accepted Answer

Choose a real weakness that is not core to the job — credible, but not disqualifying Show the cost — one concrete moment where it actually hurt your work Describe the system you built to manage it — tools, habits, and feedback loops, not willpower Report measurable progress — prove the system works and that you are still improving

Question 2

Why do interviewers ask "What is your greatest weakness?"?

Accepted Answer

Nobody believes this question measures your actual biggest flaw — it measures self-awareness, honesty, and whether you run a feedback loop on yourself. Interviewers want to see that you can name a real limitation without spiraling, that you have done something deliberate about it, and that you can discuss an uncomfortable topic with composure. Candidates who dodge with a humble-brag read as either unself-aware or evasive, and both are worse than a genuine weakness.

Question 3

What mistakes should you avoid when answering "What is your greatest weakness?"?

Accepted Answer

The humble-brag — 'I'm a perfectionist' or 'I work too hard' reads as evasive and is the most common way to fail this question Naming a weakness that is core to the role — a salesperson citing discomfort with cold outreach is disqualifying Confessing without a correction story — a weakness with no mitigation plan signals you don't act on feedback Oversharing something clinical or deeply personal — keep the answer professional and bounded Claiming you've fully fixed it — credible answers describe ongoing management, not miracles

Question 4

What follow-up questions come after "What is your greatest weakness?"?

Accepted Answer

What would your last manager say your weakness is? Tell me about a time that weakness actually cost you What's a second weakness you're working on? How do you make sure you get honest feedback about yourself?
