Question 1

How do you answer "Why do you want to work here?" in an interview?

Accepted Answer

Lead with something specific you learned — a product decision, a market position, a piece of their engineering or culture you verified Connect it to your own story with evidence, not flattery Name what you can contribute to their specific current challenge Keep it under 90 seconds — specificity beats length

Question 2

Why do interviewers ask "Why do you want to work here?"?

Accepted Answer

This separates candidates who researched from candidates who sprayed applications. The interviewer is testing whether what excites you matches what the company actually does — and whether you'd still be motivated six months in, when the onboarding glow fades and the work is just work.

Question 3

What mistakes should you avoid when answering "Why do you want to work here?"?

Accepted Answer

Generic praise — 'great culture, exciting mission' fits every company and convinces none Reciting the About page — they've read it; they want evidence YOU did Making it about what they offer you — perks, brand name, and resume value are not motivations Flattery without substance — enthusiasm is cheap; a specific observation is not Clearly not knowing what the company does — unrecoverable

Question 4

What follow-up questions come after "Why do you want to work here?"?

Accepted Answer

What do you know about our competitors? What would you change about our product? Who else are you interviewing with? What concerns you about working here?
